When I was driving to the airport to see if United’s lost and found might still have it, my mom asked me what had happened. What had happened? I remember having it and passing it to my partner before getting on the flight from Raleigh to Chicago. My memory is still unsure as to what happened to this day. I said, it was because I had changed the bag with which I traveled, which meant that I did not have a convenient spot for it to always tuck it in to; the system that had sustained me for years with my old backpack did not work with my new backpack. We agreed on building a new system. My partner, when trying to get me to calm down, said the same thing: you learned one lesson and it’s to remember to check for everything before you leave the airport. My father, a week or so later, asked if I wanted to keep the eyeglass cloth that I kept on fishing out of his case, saying that he had an extra. I said I didn’t know where to put it. He raised his eyebrows and said that I needed a system that would port everywhere, even as I traveled.
