I bought a tote bag from the Metropolitan Museum of Art for four dollars during a high school field trip. I remember thinking that the build and the sturdy canvas and its forest green dye were exactly what I wanted, at exactly the price point I desired.

I donā€™t think I really understood the quotation screen printed on it: ā€œpainting is the art of protecting surfaces from the rain and exposing them to the critic.ā€Ā 

This quotation was attributed to Ambrose Bierce. Iā€™d never looked him up before.
